hi there.. i am sending this message on behalf of ade sheehy, drummer from wholelottadc.. i am so sorry to hear that bev has passed away.. i have many fond memories of seeing bev perform at the kidderminster police club .. he was a fellow musician whom i had great amount of respect and he will be sadly missed...
Ade sheehy.. wholelottadc..

Bev I will always remember the times we stood in your kitchen at family get togethers demolishing the Jack Daniels, your inspirational drumming which rekindled the dream I have always had to learn to master the art.  I am sad that you will not be able to hear, even on my shabby cheapo set,  how I have progressed.  I have always looked on you as a part of my extended family and I hope the promise I made to you that last Christmas we all had together to listen and be non judgemental about your fears about your mom, dad, Kerry and kev was met in full and although there have been times when I could have swung for you, I'll miss our talks. give your mom my love and your dad a slap. In my eyes you where never the daft old soak you always claimed to be. ROCK ON MATE

Clive

We only got to know and appreciate Bev when he was drumming for Shark Attack. We arrived in his life late, he left our lives early. We just wish we had known him sooner for he was a true entertainer. Those trousers! Those shorts! Those legs!
We met and chatted with him in Bewdley the Saturday after the floods but it's Texas Flood that we will remember him for.
Our thoughts are with his family.

Moving tributes to a respected drummer

MOVING tributes are being paid to Worcestershire drummer Bev Smith who died earlier this month.

Smith, who died on Wednesday, August 8, aged just 50, was an incredibly experienced and respected musician who had played with the likes of Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Champion Jack Dupree.

In recent years he was drummer for the Wyre Forest-based blues and reggae band Shark Attack but his career went back to 1972, when he first received drum tuition from John Bonham of Led Zepplin. By 1983 Smith was a member of Honeydrippers alongside Robert Plant and in 1987 he joined Stan Webb's Chicken Shack and toured Europe.

Sally Haines, lead singer of Shark Attack, said Smith had given so much to so many people. "He was a great man and a great musician," she said.

"He gave me the best musical experience of my life. He was so full of life and fun, yet sensitive and respectful.

"He will be missed by many people."

A funeral service for Smith was held at St George's Church in Kidderminster earlier this month. To pay tribute to him visit www.sharkattack.tripod.com.

We are very sad to hear of the loss of Bev Smith and our thoughts go out to his family and friends. We knew Bev, he used to come and hear us play with his pal . Always generous with his compliments and modest when receiving them. A great sense of humour and very knowledgable about the music business.  Always ready to encourage and make those all around him happy and wanting to be in his company.  He was taken too soon.

It's hard to put into words how we are feeling at this awful time.  He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, he was always larger than life and a great mate to us.  Our thoughts are now with Maggie and his family.  Life for us will never be the same again, it's left a huge hole in our lives.
Love you always Bev XXX Haze, Dave & Gaz.

Bev, I will not take up too much of your time as I know you are up there jamming with Bonzo and ganging up on Keith Moon as we speak. I will never forget the life changing advice you have given me and the life changing drumming I learnt from you! and I promise I will keep your techniques alive forever.
I will wear the Ludwig jacket and lay down the double handed shuffle with pride.
That candy stripe bass drum, beats the rhythm I live my life to.
Take care mucker you live on inside everyone of us xx
Dave Small.

One of the Greg's here from Rough-n-Ready. Holidays delayed the sad news till now, but from the whole band a quick note of consolation and respect to Bev. Great man, great character + great music - a sad loss to friends, family, and to all of us keeping the beat.

Great memories of great gigs Melvyn's Marauders and those legendary
Honeydrippers escapades. It was a privilege and a pleasure to have known
Bev. from Pete "the Feet" Baylis. a.k.a. BOOGIE from Nottingham

Dave Onions told me the sad news and though we only met on two occasions, when he did the Wolverley gigs, you struck me as a real character and a nice guy. It was a real pleasure to make your acquaintance and I’m sure you’ll be missed by a lot of people.

If only I’d known at the time that your name was Keith.

We ain’t that common, you know and now we’re one down!

Keith Miles
